How To - Gallery Wall

So it’s been a minute, so many things have happened since my last post! Our build finished in March 2020 and it was the smoothest build and great time frame (6 months from site cut). We also welcomed our beautiful baby boy in May so life has been hectic, not to mention COVID-19.

Anyway, a few weeks ago on Instagram I posted my gallery wall and have had a lot of questions so I thought I would do a post for anyone wanting to do a gallery wall in their homes.

Materials Required

  • 9 x 16x16” Frames with 8x8” photo mat - I got these from Kmart and they are called the “Seattle” in the colour Oak for $12 each

  • 9 x 8x8” printed photos - Mine were printed at Officeworks for $2.40 per print

  • A lead pencil

  • A tape measure

  • Wall mates

  • Screwdriver

  • A level - I used my iPhone Measure App

Instructions

  • Plan out where you want all photos to be and place them in your frames first. I did this at the end and had to re level everything, it was a pain!

  • Find the centre point of your wall where you want your middle frame to be, I used the centre of the light switch as the middle point for my wall as I didn’t want the frames to be too close to the floor

  • From this point, you want to measure the width of your wall. Mark this point with your pencil

  • From this centre point, measure up ½ the width of your frame (eg. frame is 43cm so measure 21.5cm up) and mark with your pencil. This will be where the top of your frame will sit

  • On the back of your frame, measure from the top of your frame to where the hook (the Seattle frame is 6cm from top to hook). This will be your “hook measurement”.

  • On your top of frame wall marking, mark the point of where the hook would need to be. Eg. mine would be 6cm down. This is where you will screw in your wall mate.

  • Hang your frame, ensuring it is level.

  • On the top right hand corner of this centre frame, measure 5cm and mark your wall with pencil. This will be the gap between each frame.

  • From this marking, measure ½ the width of your frame and mark your wall, then measure your hook measurement down.

  • Screw in your wall mate and hang your frame, ensuring it is 5cm from the top and bottom of the centre frame and that it is level.

  • Do the same above steps for the left hand side of your centre frame

  • You will now have your centre row completed.

  • From here, you will be able to do the top and bottom row with ease.

  • Measure up your 5cm gap from the top left corner of your left hand side frame, then your full frame measurement up from this point, then your ½ frame measurement to the right, then your hook measurement down.

You should now have a beautiful gallery wall to admire every day.
